I have a LLB (Hons) and BCA from Victoria University of Wellington and a PhD in Law from the University of Melbourne. I am a Professor of Law and Rutherford Discovery Fellow at the University of Canterbury.

is recognised globally, especially on freshwater and marine law and policy. I have published widely and lead multidisciplinary research teams.

I have over 20 years' experience advising governments, private sector, and Indigenous peoples on natural resources, environment and Indigenous law and policy in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, and the Americas.
